In many applications it is not necessary to remove the starter to install the Lava Starter Shield. because Lava Starter Shield uses high-temperature hook and loop fastener strips to securely hold it in place. Also, unlike aluminized fiberglass shields, Lava Starter Shield doesn’t conduct electricity, so it won’t cause electrical issues.
As a starter heats up, it requires higher amperage to start the engine. Keeping the starter cool with Lava Starter Shield reduces this. Wrapping the starter with Lava Starter Shield also protects it from the additional heat caused by the addition of headers, which makes starter wear and failure an even larger risk.
