DMCC Round 4 2013: Victoriaville, QC

DMCC 2013 Round 4 Victoriaville
One of the most exciting stops on the DMCC schedule is the Victoriaville round. It is the event where DMCC takes an empty snow dump in the middle of Victoriaville and turns it into one of the best drift circuits in the series.

With the event being so popular, this year a lot more grandstands were added to accommodate a lot more fans as last year the event was filled to capacity.

Saturday was an interesting day. Off the bat, it was impressive to see Jeff Laflamme arrive at the track considering he partially destroyed the back end of his IS while doing a demo for a sponsor last week. The day itself was a combination of dry and wet driving that made for some very interesting incidents. With the track drying out after a bit of rain, Dave Briggs took a high line after the jump, but ended up landing in a section that was still wet, spinning him and sending him into the K-wall. It didn't look like a hard hit, but it ended up destroying his steering rack. Practice went on with Bob Patinka and Alex Michaud putting down some of the sickest runs and Pat Cyr was back with his FR-S and looking a lot better out there compared to last round. Just as the qualifications were set to start, an angry looking doom cloud came in and t started to rain very hard. It was raining so much that the decision was made to have the qualifications early the next day in order to make it fair for everybody. This was a lucky call for the Briggs team as it gave them the chance to fix the car. Instead of having qualifications they gave the drivers extra practice time. Before the end of the day, Dave Briggs car was back together and went out for a test lap. As Dave was doing his warm up donuts something in the rear end let go; it turned out to be the diff crapping out. His team figured out that the diff problem was not from the crash, but either way it was a weekend ender for the team.

Another special part about the Victoriaville rounds is that at the end of day one there is a Parade that sees the pilots drive their drift cars through the streets of Victoriaville to a restaurant where they meet and greet with fans and have a good time. Luckily by this time the rain had stopped and it was getting nice out again.

The next day was absolutely beautiful. With the qualifications being pushed back, the drivers were only given one practice lap before having to go out to qualify. Tanner Munson followed in the fourth spot while Jeff Laflamme got the fourth spot. Francis Tasse got second and with a crazy run, Marc Landrville finished first. With hardly any time to relax it was time for the top 16 to start. The battles were intense with some crazy door to door action and even a bunch of wrecks. The final four came down to the same top for qualifiers. Marc faced Tanner and on Tanners lead run he went high going into the wall. Marc went on to face Francis Tasse for the top podium spot. Tanner with the help of a few other drivers was actually able to get the car back together to face Jeff Laflamme for third, but sadly Tanner was disqualified since he went over his five minutes by six seconds. The main battle was great seeing two friends face each other. When the smoke cleared, Francis Tasse in his beast of a RX-7 took home the win.
