The Imagine ideal was borne from feedback gleaned from Hybrid Audio Technologies dealers around the globe, and the overwhelming necessity to have a Hybrid Audio Technologies-grade product in the “entry-level” bracket. The Imagine program required an entire year of implementation in 2009 to be sure that the first product to be released, the Imagine I61-2 6 ½” convertible coaxial/component system, was worthy of the Hybrid Audio Technologies name brand. Among many unique features to the Imagine product, the paper cone, known for its excellent sonic attributes, is water proof, thanks to a polymer developed exclusive to Hybrid Audio Technologies. The treatment does not change the look and parameters of the driver like old-fashioned “glossy” polymers which added an appreciable amount of moving mass and significantly colored the sound. No, the Imagine cones look like any “normal” paper cone, but in reality are likely the only high-performance water proof paper cone car audio speaker systems on the market. The Imagine I61-2 retails for $199.99 in the United States market, and other sizes in the line will be added throughout the second and third quarters in 2010, to include a 6 X 9”, 5 X 7”, and 5 ¼” two-way convertible speaker systems, as well as an exciting new line of Hybrid Audio Technologies Imagine subwoofers.
The Imagine I61-2 product began shipping on January 19, 2010, and the reviews from the specialty retailers have been nothing short of amazing. Greg Loercher of Mobile Audio in Bloomington, Illinois stated “there’s nothing on my board, irrespective of price, that sounds as good as the Imagine I61-2.” Brian Souter of Advantage Audio in Norman, Oklahoma stated “these are the best coaxial speakers I have heard…for me to list everything I have owned and installed in 20 years I am comparing these to would take way too long to list. There is nothing in the store for $200 that sounds better, period.”
