Advanced Clutch Technology (ACT) has released a new range of 240mm street and race clutch kits for the 2023-2026 Toyota GR Corolla and its turbocharged 1.6-liter G16E-GTS engine.
The lineup consists of six kits offering different disc configurations and torque capacities. ACT rates the street-oriented TC9-HDSD and TC9-HDSS kits at 407 lb-ft of torque at the engine, which the company says represents a 20% increase in torque capacity over the original equipment clutch.
Four race-oriented configurations are also available. The TC9-HDG6 and TC9-HDG4 kits are rated for 619 lb-ft at the engine and use six- and four-pad sprung discs, respectively. The TC9-HDR6 and TC9-HDR4 carry the same 619-lb-ft rating but use rigid-center six- and four-pad discs. ACT notes that some gear rattle is expected with its rigid-center disc configurations.
All six kits use ACT’s Heavy Duty Pressure Plate, which incorporates hardened diaphragm fingers. According to ACT’s specifications, the pressure plate provides a 23% increase in clamp load compared with the original equipment unit.
The new clutch kits can be used with either the GR Corolla’s original equipment flywheel or ACT’s optional 601510 Streetlite flywheel, which is sold separately.
ACT’s one-piece forged chromoly Streetlite flywheel weighs 16.8 pounds. The company says that represents a 35.6% reduction in rotating weight compared with the GR Corolla’s original dual-mass flywheel, with the reduced mass intended to allow quicker turbo spooling.
The new clutch kits cover 2023-2026 Toyota GR Corolla models and are SFI-approved.
