Unitronic Releases Rainbow Shift Light and Digital Oil Level Add-On for MK8 GTI/R and 8Y S3

Unitronic has released its Rainbow Shift Light and Digital Oil Level Add-On for select Volkswagen and Audi models equipped with the 2.0TSI EVO4 platform. The software add-on is available for 2022-2024 VW GTI, 2022-2024 VW Golf R, and 2022-2024 Audi S3 applications.

The Rainbow Shift Light function adds a visual shift indicator to the vehicle’s Virtual Cockpit display. As engine speed approaches redline, the animation progresses across the tachometer from green to yellow and then red, giving drivers a clearer visual reference for gear changes during spirited driving or track use.

Originally available on select MK8 Golf R models, Unitronic has expanded the feature to supported MK8 GTI and 8Y S3 applications. On supported DSG-equipped MK8 GTI and 8Y S3 models, the Rainbow Shift Light can be enabled in S-mode and M-mode. For 6-speed MK8 GTI models, the feature is enabled in all drive modes.

The Digital Oil Level Display allows drivers to monitor engine oil level through the factory infotainment system and Virtual Cockpit. The display can be accessed manually through the vehicle menu, with a pop-up also appearing in the Virtual Cockpit shortly after startup once disclaimers or warning messages are cleared, or when the vehicle’s hood is opened.

Unitronic says the add-on does not require external modules or instrument cluster disassembly. UniCONNECT+ or UniPRO+ is required to flash the vehicle with the appropriate Unitronic software, while OBDeleven or a similar diagnostic/coding tool is required to enable certain display parameters.

The Unitronic Rainbow Shift Light and Digital Oil Level Add-On is priced at $50.

Unitronic Advanced Features (UAF) Add-On is not required.
UniCONNECT+ or UniPRO+ is required to flash the vehicle with the appropriate software.
OBDeleven or a similar diagnostic/coding tool is required to enable certain display functions.
Audi 8Y S3 applications require the Virtual Cockpit Plus option to activate the Rainbow Shift Light.
