Formula DRIFT's PRO Championship competition was cancelled for the first time in the series' 23-year history after severe storms halted competition at Indianapolis Raceway Park, while 14-year-old Camren Sorensen became the youngest winner in Formula DRIFT history with his PROSPEC victory.

Formula DRIFT's first visit to Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park delivered two historic storylines. Fourteen-year-old Camren Sorensen became the youngest winner in series history after claiming Link ECU PROSPEC Round 3, while severe thunderstorms forced officials to cancel the PRO Championship competition, marking the first cancelled PRO round in Formula DRIFT's 23-year history.
Friday's PROSPEC competition belonged to Sorensen, who defeated Jason Webb in the Final to earn his first Formula DRIFT victory. Sorensen advanced past Kelsey Rowlings, benefited from a Top 16 bye run, eliminated sister Amanda Sorensen in the Top 8 after her BMW lost its supercharger drive belt, and advanced through the Final 4 when Jerry Johnson was sidelined by power steering trouble. Sorensen then edged Webb in the Final to secure the historic victory.
The win vaulted Sorensen from sixth to third in the championship standings, just 10 points behind leader Dmitriy Brutskiy heading into the season finale.
Brutskiy continued his consistent championship campaign despite falling to Webb in the Final 4. His third-place finish allowed the two-time PROSPEC champion to maintain the championship lead, while Webb's runner-up finish kept him second in the standings and extended his lead in the PROSPEC Rookie championship.
Attention shifted to the PRO Championship on Saturday, where Jack Shanahan topped qualifying with an 84.63-point run in the Pulsar Turbos E82 BMW. Matt Field qualified second, followed by Aurimas "Odi" Bakchis in third. Championship leader James Deane secured fourth, while rookie Cole Richards continued his impressive qualifying form by placing eighth.
Competition began as scheduled before thunderstorms moved across the speedway during the Top 32 heats. Lightning forced spectators from the grandstands before torrential rain flooded sections of the racing surface and paddock. Formula DRIFT officials, Indianapolis Raceway Park staff, and local emergency crews worked for several hours to remove standing water, but continued rainfall prevented competition from resuming.
With conditions failing to improve before the event curfew, Formula DRIFT officially cancelled the remainder of the PRO Championship competition, marking the first cancelled PRO round in the series' 23-year history.
Under Formula DRIFT regulations, only completed sessions are awarded points. As a result, qualifying points remain in effect, but no competition points were awarded for Round 5. James Deane retains the PRO Championship lead heading into Round 6, while the Indianapolis qualifying order will determine the qualifying ranking for the next event.
Next Round
Round 6 of the 2026 Formula DRIFT PRO Championship heads to Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington, on August 21-22. The PRO Championship will then conclude at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on September 24-26 alongside the Link ECU PROSPEC Championship finale.
