After five years on sale, Honda has confirmed the Si sedan for the 11th generation Civic will cease production at the end of 2026. But there’s an asterisk, and it's a big one – this is a pause, not a retirement. Honda has said Civic Si production will resume but gave no timeframe for its return.
An internal document shared on Reddit said the pause was due to, “evolving business conditions,” in the U.S., namely shifting Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations regarding certification for 2027 model year vehicles and beyond.
The statement goes on to say, “Honda has made the decision to pause the production of the trims that utilize the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired to the 6-speed manual transmission (6MT) at the conclusion of the 2026 model year.”
The Acura Integra A-Spec, which utilizes the same powertrain, will also be paused. The statement goes on to say that Civic production volumes will not be impacted at the Honda Canada plant in Alliston, Ontario that builds Civic sedans for North America. It says the Si will be replaced with other Civic sedan models.
American Honda emailed a statement to Road & Track saying, in part, “Honda and Acura currently plan for both trims to return to the lineup, and American Honda expects to share more details at the appropriate time. Based on current forecasts, American Honda expects dealer inventory to remain available into early 2027.”
Honda hasn’t said the pause is due to tailpipe emissions specifically, but it sure seems like it to us. Whether production will resume later in 2027 or the model year will be skipped entirely, is uncertain. It’s possible both cars won’t return until the next generation, which could be a few years away.
Either way, the Civic remains a vitally important car for Honda in North America. It’s the company’s bestselling car in the U.S. and Canada. U.S. sales through Q2 2026 (June 30) were 132,440, which is a 3.3 percent gain over the same period in 2025.
