Yokohama Tire is set for another thrilling run at the 102nd Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Building on their impressive recent performances, Yokohama’s ADVAN tires have been a game-changer with two overall championships, 20 podium finishes, and nine division wins over the past two years. This year, they’re teaming up with Honda/Acura and Hyundai to make a strong showing on June 23 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Leading the charge is Robin Shute, a seasoned Team Yokohama driver with four overall Pikes Peak wins, including the last two years. Shute is switching things up by going electric, driving the newly unveiled Hyundai IONIQ 5N TA in the Exhibition class. He’s joined by Dani Sordo, a World Rally Championship competitor, both aiming to set a record in the Electric Production SUV/Crossover category using ADVAN A005 racing slicks.
Patricia Wall, Yokohama’s motorsports senior manager, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “Working with Hyundai, Bryan Herta Autosport, and their talented drivers has been a great experience. Shute’s expertise, Sordo’s speed, and Ron Zaras’s steady progress in a production IONIQ 5N have all been impressive.”
Yokohama continues its collaboration with Honda/Acura for the second consecutive year. Paul Hubers will compete in a 2023 Acura Integra Tech A-Spec, sporting the historic ADVAN livery and A005 racing slicks, in the Pikes Peak Open class. Katherine Legge, a three-time Indy 500 starter, will drive a 2024 Acura Integra Type S DE5 on ADVAN A005 tires in the Time Attack 1 class.
For the seventh year, Yokohama is the exclusive tire supplier for the Pikes Peak GT4 Trophy by Yokohama division. This year, the GT4 class welcomes all manufacturers, including Porsche, Ford, and Toyota, competing on ADVAN A052 tires. Notable entries include Robb Holland and Nuno Caetano in Porsche 718 GT4 RS Clubsports, Chris Becker in a Ford Mustang GT4, and Laura Hayes in a Toyota GR Supra GT4.
“We’re excited to welcome Ford and Toyota to the GT4 class alongside our long-standing partnership with Porsche,” Wall said.
Yokohama continues to support female drivers with participants like Hayes, Legge, and Loni Unser. Unser returns for her third Pikes Peak run, driving a Porsche GT3 Turbo Cup car in the Pikes Peak Open class. Both Unser and Hayes will also participate in the Women in Motorsports North America’s “Women with Drive” event on June 21.
David Donohue, the 2022 and 2023 Time Attack 1 champion, is another key driver for Yokohama, returning with his class-winning 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo R on A005s, aiming for a third straight win.
Yokohama will also be part of Fan Fest on June 21 in downtown Colorado Springs, featuring a driver meet-and-greet, car displays, and more.
In addition to Pikes Peak, Yokohama’s 2024 North American motorsports activities include the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America by Yokohama, Porsche Sprint Challenge USA West by Yokohama, Porsche Carrera Cup North America, Nitrocross, King of the Hammers, Yokohama NORRA Mexican 1000, Crandon International Raceway sponsorship, Ultra4 USA, TrophyLite Series, and the Championship Off-Road Series partnership.
