This comes courtesy of Chris Watson aka Tofu Auto Works from New Zealand. As you can see he is about the Miata life. These are two of his cars; the one in the back there is getting a bit of an extreme makeover, and the one in foreground is super clean already.
He's working on something special using the back one as a template. So we've got to watch this progress over time. He's making his very own version of the hardtop out of fiberglass, and it's going to be something special. I've been following this on social media for a while, and as soon as I saw the first picture of the finished product I was in love.
You can see as it comes along, it hoes all the way up the roof properly. Then he introduced the louvers; proper race car style. He's got the side vents. So he's taking a lot of inspiration from 80s and 90s supercars, but it's all culminating in the final piece. He says it's removable but I don't know why you would. It's a speedtail style back for the hard top.
It's very retro future styling to the Miata. I love absolute everything about it. Unfortunately he just found out it's going to be very difficult to sell these from New Zealand because they physically can't ship the whole thing for less than the cost of the entire thing itself. So hopefully he finds a solution.
I hope there's enough support out there even in New Zealand, but everything about this is super sweet. I love the symmetry on it too, and everything about the craftsmanship. He's clearly taking his time. The fitment is really good. I hope to see more of these. I love speedtail styles.
As seen on PASMAG's Tuning 365 (Season 3 Episode 7) on REV TV.
