Subaru "Project Midnight" Could be the Quickest WRX Yet

Subaru Motorsports USA and the team at Vermont SportsCar have cooked up a successor to their iconic "AirSlayer" Subaru, which was a 2020 WRX STI built for Travis Pastrana's Gymkhana. This time around, the project is built on a new generation Subaru WRX and designed strictly for going as fast as possible with maximum grip on a paved surface. Project Midnight will produce 670 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque, which is actually a bit less than its AirSlayer predecessor, but a carbon fiber diet and some impressive fine-tuning should propel this WRX to astonishing speeds on the tarmac.

A turbocharged 2.0L engine that revs to 9,500 RPM replaces the WRX's factory 2.4L iteration of the boxer, and just like the AirSlayer before it, this Subaru will definitely spit hot flames from its hood-exit. The team put a serious emphasis on lightening the Project Midnight chassis, and shaved down around 1000 pounds from a stock WRX, with its curb weight comign in at 2,469 lbs - that's 300 pounds lighter than the AirSlayer before it.

The carbon fiber body with its massive rear wing will sit overtop of 18-inch OZ Racing wheels, which are wrapped in Yokohama Advan racing slicks. The best part? The car will be driven at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed by none other than Scott Speed - former F1 driver and rallycross champion who piloted the AirSlayer to a track record at Virginia International Raceway. Needless to say, Project Midnight is in good hands for its Goodwood FoS debut!
