Fool Me Once, Shame On You (Carbon Edition)

We look at custom builds daily. It’s part of the job. It’s part of the hobby. And for the most part, it’s because we’re passionate about the industry - the people, the aftermarket parts, the events, the trends and so much more. So whether I’m checking out cars online or at an event, recently (due to the advancements and quality in digital printing and vinyl) one aftermarket part has me looking twice, and i can often get fooled.

Here’s a video that was shared by wrap installer, UnderWraps laying down some printed carbon fiber from 3M. At the back of my head, I knew this trend would pick up some steam, not only because real carbon fiber is expensive, and depending on where you live, shipping big and fragile parts may not be suggested because of potential damage and costs, or just because the track-inspired theme is popular. The benefits of carbon fiber and weight savings don’t mean much if you don’t go to the track. But I do understand the aesthetics; carbon fiber sure does look good and provides a contrast between the colored panels.

This is a mod where I gotta look twice just so I don’t get fooled.
