Track Day Essentials: What to Bring and How to Prepare

Track season is in full swing, and as enthusiasts make their way to the track - either in their daily drivers or in their bonafide weekend warrior racecars - there are a few things you'll want to keep in mind before you put the pedal to the metal on the circuit or the drag strip. Safety is paramount when it comes to pushing your vehicle to the limits, and so is preparation for all of the trials and tribulations you might experience during a track day. We assembled a quick list of some essentials you'll want to keep handy for the day at the track.

Safety Gear

Ensuring your safety on the track is paramount. Here are some essential safety gear items:

  • Helmet – Snell or DOT certified

  • Racing suit and gloves

  • Racing shoes

  • Head and neck restraint system

  • Fire-resistant balaclava

Tools

Having the right tools can make all the difference. Make sure to pack the following:

  • Tire pressure gauge

  • Lug nut wrench/sockets + a torque wrench

  • Jack + jack stands

  • Basic tool kit with screwdrivers, sockets, wrenches, and pliers

Spare Parts + Repair Options

Being prepared with spare parts can prevent minor issues from ruining your day. Don't forget:

  • Spare tire(s)

  • Brake pads and fluid

  • Extra engine oil and coolant

  • Fuses and electrical connectors

  • Zip ties and duct tape
