Redline Track Events, once known for putting on North America’s premier time attack series, has completely changed the game for 2011 offering a seductive cocktail of time attack, wheel to wheel racing, head to head battles, and even a modeling competition entertaining everyone from the hard core race fan to the girlfriend that he dragged along with him. For the third of nine championship rounds, the series swarmed upon the twisting ribbon of pavement in Southern California known as Auto Club Speedway.
Always a crowd favorite, the Pro Track Challenge head to head battles did not disappoint. Drama and mechanical issues between competitors made for an intense competition that kept fans on their feet. Joey Scarallo put his Group A Wheels Pontiac GTO on the top step of the podium for the second time this year proving that he is a force to be reckoned with. Paul Brown in the K&N Infiniti G35 drove his heart out putting forward the most entertaining battles of the weekend working his way through the competition ending up in 2nd place.
The MotoIQ Pacific Tuner Car Championships saw a record number of participants at Auto Club Speedway and the heightened level of competition provided fans with 30 minutes of intense wheel to wheel action. Mike Bonanni in the Berk Technology BMW 135i remains undefeated in the Tuner Over class securing his third straight win after an intense battle with Carl Rydquist in the City Tire Nissan 350Z. Bonanni and Rydquist exchanged the lead five times over the course of 15 laps. Formula Drift superstar Dai Yoshihara ran away with the Tuner Under class win for the second time this year, this time in a borrowed Nissan Sentra.
The Pro Time Attack series saw Richie Taylor smash his own record for the Street Tire RWD class in the AE Performance BMW M3 by nearly three seconds with a 1:47.345 lap, also earning him second place overall, a tremendous feat for a car on street tires. Pressuring Taylor in Street Tire RWD was Dieter Heinz-Kijora in the Evolution Racewerks BMW 135i clocking in with a 1:47.739, just 0.394 seconds behind the M3. Paul Brown in the K&N Infiniti G35 took top honors both overall and in Super Modified RWD with a 1:41.988.
