By now you should know that you can add a module to almost any Clifford remote start or security system so you can control it from anywhere your smartphone can get a data connection. This technology, called SmartStart, provides real-time communication with your vehicle so you know it is safe and sound. It allows you to lock, unlock, remotely start the vehicle and/or pop the trunk, all from your smartphone. With the SmartStart GPS version, you can even find or track your vehicle on a map when used with a compatible iPhone or Android device.

This technology has been taken to the next level with the new Clifford SmartStart Bluetooth Module. The new DSM50BT module uses Bluetooth communication to let your smartphone (iPhone, Android or Blackberry) talk to your Clifford system. You can arm and disarm the security system while simultaneously locking and unlocking the doors. You can activate the remote start feature or pop the trunk. The software on your smartphone (Apple iPhone or Android only) will also remember where you were when you locked the car. This is called SmartPark.

With the DSM50BT on board, you can still use the RF remotes that came with your remote start and/or security system. Or, leave them at home, de-clutter your key chain and just use your smartphone. The DSM50BT provides up to 200 feet of communication and can be paired with multiple phones – it will automatically connect to the last phone used. Because the DSM50BT uses Bluetooth, there are no service plans to buy and no additional operating costs – ever.

Just like our parents always reminded us to turn off the lights when we left a room, the DSM50BT will go into power saver mode after not detecting a connection for 24 hours. This reduces the draw on your vehicle's electrical system. The system also provides a sleep mode, so if you are leaving the car for a longer period of time (say you're going on vacation) you can put the system to sleep to further reduce current draw. From power saver or sleep mode, all you have to do is select the DSM50BT from your phone's Bluetooth connection menu and it resumes normal operation.

The DSM50BT is designed to work in conjunction with other SmartStart modules, including the SmartStart GPS. With either the DSM200C or DSM250C, you add the ability to control your vehicle from anywhere your smartphone can get a data communication connection. You could be on the beach in Australia and start your car remotely if you wanted. The logic algorithms in the SmartStart application on your phone will first search for a Bluetooth connection when you issue a command and, if it does not find one, will then issue the command over the cellular data network. It all happens quickly and seamlessly.

Clifford SmartStart technology makes your smartphone your all-in-one control for your total vehicle security or remote start system.
